Acceptable Items - General Requirements
- Residential: Must be intended for use in or have application in residential construction, improvement, or maintenance. Nothing labeled or specifically configured for industrial, professional, or commercial use only.
- Structural: Must be structurally sound to perform its intended use. Nothing broken, missing, worn-out or otherwise ‘falling apart’.
- Functional: Must operate in a way so that it can perform its intended function. No disabling damage, nonfunctioning components, or in any way inoperable.
- Cosmetic: Must have an appearance acceptable to the general public to perform its intended use. Problems may include alterations, certain damage, excessive dirt or other visible lack of maintenance/upkeep, being ‘outdated' and not ‘in demand,' and the like.
Wish List
- Lumber, at least 5' in length

- Appliances needing no repairs and not over 5 years old

Monetary Donations
Habitat ReStore accepts all monetary donations. Your dollars will be used to further our mission by allowing us unrestricted funds to offset operational costs.
Product Donation Requirements by Categories
Appliances and Computer Equipment
Refrigerators, Dishwashers, Stoves, Cooktops, Ovens, Microwaves, Washers, Dryers, Computer Equipment— 5 years old or less, unless it was top-of-the-line when new or it's antique. Must be in perfect working order and needing no repair or parts. Must be clean and ready to be used.
Asphalt Products
In original packaging marked with either manufacture date or containing the words "no asbestos" OR written and signed statement required from the donor giving where and approximately when item was purchased new. MUST be manufactured after 1980. Asphalt products manufactured prior to 1980 will not be accepted.
Bathroom Products
- Towel Bars, Soap Dishes, TP Holders, Toothbrush Holders —Complete with mounting brackets and hardware, “fixed” only (no stand-alone ‘décor' items), new only on porcelain items.
- Handicap Grab Bars & Support Items —In good condition with all parts and accessories.
- Bathtubs —No chips in finish larger than a dime, no dents. Fiberglass—No cracks or broken edges, little to no discoloration. Claw foot—Acceptable in most any condition, within reason.
- Toilets —New Only. Must have bowl, tank, and tank lid. We do not accept old/used toilets. Only brand new toilets acceptable.
- Plumbing Kits —Sets/kits preferred (all panels, doors w/ frame, and base), but parts accepted as described below.
- Plumbing Bases — Must be relatively clean with no cracks or other damage.
- Plumbing Panel Sets —Full sets only, not damaged, no excessive discoloration, relatively clean.
- Inserts —Not damaged, no excessive discoloration, relatively clean.
- Showers Doors —Sliding or hinged, must have all parts including all tracks/frame, no broken glass or bent pieces. Must be very clean with no excessive soap scum (well maintained), no mold.
- Vanity Tops, Single Bowl —new and used acceptable. No chips, cracks, ‘spider veins' in bowl, or excessive wear.
- Vanity Tops, Double Bowl and mop sinks - new or used, relatively clean.
- Must be clean and ready to be used.
Cabinets
- Bases and Uppers —Must have all the doors and drawers, no damage, and fairly up to date. Metal is ok with some rust under sink, but no rust showing in the front (well-maintained).
- Doors —Acceptable in new or like new condition only. Also accept “antique” good condition doors.
- Drawers —Acceptable only with matching cabinet set, excellent condition, unless antique.
- Faces —Same criteria as cabinet doors; must include doors.
- Medicine —All types, fairly up to date, no damage or rust, to include shelves. No chipped mirror.
- Countertops —All materials, 4 feet long and longer. No size requirements if accompanies matching cabinet. No chips, cracks, or other damage.
- Drawer Guides —Complete sets only, no damage or rust.
- Cabinet Pulls and Hinges —No excessive wear or paint, complete with no missing pieces, nothing broken, must be boxed or sacked.
- Must be clean and ready to be used.
Doors
- Wooden —No rotten or broken spots, no holes, no disfiguration/alteration, no commercial.
- Metal & Metal Clad —No dents, no rust. For solid metal doors, must be 36 inches or less with no blank/empty window cut-outs.
- With Windows —No broken glass, no broken seals on double-paned glass.
- Patio Doors —Excellent to good shape, with full frame , no broken seals on double-paned glass.
- Storm —Operable and complete: including hinge piece, top and side frame pieces, screen, and window.
- Screen —Complete, no rot or damage, prefer screen material to be intact, but some damage acceptable.
- Must be clean and ready to be used.
Electrical and Lighting
- Fairly up to date, no corrosion or rust, assorted is fine, boxed or sacked, no pieces (if kit, etc.), no commercial.
- Light Fixtures —See “Light Fixture” section- Not excessively worn, nothing broken, fully functioning, protected for transport.
- Switch Plate covers —Clean, no paint, with matching screw.
- Wiring, Boxes, and Connectors —Wire should be at least 10' long. Boxes and connectors with no corrosion or rust, no excessive dirt.
- Ceiling Fans — Working order with all parts.
- Fluorescent Lights—Ballast label must state "no PCBs". Ballast must be exposed at time of collection for inspection. No bulbs.
- Fluorescent Light Bulbs —NONE used. Please remove bulbs prior to donation. NEW BULBS IN PACKAGING ONLY.
- Light Bulbs —New and in packaging only.
Fences, Railing, Trim, and Molding Materials
- Chain Link Fabric, Gates, & Top Rail —Good condition, little damage or rust.
- Wooden —In panels, any height, little rot or deterioration, good structural condition.
- Vinyl —Full pieces or panels only, no damage.
- All Posts —structurally sound, unbent, clean with no concrete attached.
- All Other Fence Material —Chicken wire, snow fence, etc. are acceptable. No rust, major tears, or other damage.
- Wrought-Iron —All lengths, well-maintained with little rust or deterioration.
- Trim & Molding —5 feet long and longer, good cosmetic condition. Door trim sets acceptable as full sets (1 top and 2 side pieces).
- Handrail —5 feet long and longer, no damage, rot, or excessive peeling paint.
- Landing Posts and Spindles —undamaged, in good cosmetic condition.
Fireplace Materials
- Fireplace Inserts —Good condition with all parts, well-maintained, relatively clean.
- Fireplaces, Stand-Alone — Good condition with all parts, well-maintained, relatively clean with good cosmetic appearance.
- Fronts and Doors —Complete, no rust or damage, relatively clean, fully functional.
- Tools —individual or in sets, good condition.
- Gas Logs —Working order, relatively clean.
- Wood Cradles, Etc. —Undamaged with no rust.
Flooring and Ceiling Tile
- Ceiling Tile —All types; like new condition. No pieces, water damage, or other damage or deterioration. In original packaging marked with either manufacture date or containing the words "no asbestos" OR written and signed statement required from the donor giving where and approximately when item was purchased new. MUST be manufactured after 1980. Ceiling tiles products manufactured prior to 1980 will not be accepted.
- Carpet —Room size, like new condition.
- Wood —All types, useable lengths, no nails, rot, or other damage. If tongue and groove, ‘tongues' and ‘grooves' must be intact.
- Parquet —Full pieces, no rot or damage, boxed or sacked for handling.
- Laminate —Full pieces, no rot or damage.
- Vinyl, Rolled —New only, 6' x 6' and larger, no cracks or other damage. In original packaging marked with either manufacture date or containing the words "no asbestos" OR written and signed statement required from the donor giving where and approximately when item was purchased new. MUST be manufactured after 1980. Vinyl products manufactured prior to 1980 will not be accepted
- Vinyl, Tiles —New only, both adhesive and non-adhesive, full pieces, boxed or sacked for handling. In original packaging marked with either manufacture date or containing the words "no asbestos" OR written and signed statement required from the donor giving where and approximately when item was purchased.
- Must be clean and ready to be used and or installed.
Furniture
- Must be free of rips, tears, stains pet damage and general wear spots.
- Must be in overall good condition and need no repair.
- Overall – clean and in good condition!
Garage
- Wooden & Metal Doors —All panels, no damage, rust, or rot, fully functional; if glass, no broken panes.
- Tracks, Springs, Cables —in good repair, minimal rust.
- Electric Openers —5 years old or less, perfect working order needing no repair or parts. To include all parts, including remotes if applicable.
Glass
- Panes —In original shipping packaging only. We do not possess the handling or transport equipment to safely handle or sell unpackaged glass.
- Shelving —All materials acceptable. Must be in good, clean condition.
- Mirrors —In good condition with no chips, cracks, or discoloration. No mirrors larger than one person can handle safely, such as ones over a double vanity.
Hardware
- Door Locks and Knobs —fully functional with all parts, no excessive wear or scratches, packaged/sacked individually.
- Hinges —all hinges, must have all parts, unpainted, no rust.
- Miscellaneous —should be specifically sorted and boxed/sacked, clean, operable, no rust.
- Nails —Sorted by type and size, boxed or sacked, no rust.
- Screws —Sorted by type and size, boxed or sacked, no rust.
HVAC
- Furnaces —Gas or electric, 5 years old or less, perfect working order needing no repair or parts, inner workings not rusty, well-maintained.
- Air Conditioners (Central Condenser Unit) —5 years old or less, perfect working order needing no repair or parts, well-maintained, preferably with matching evaporator (A-coil) if separate unit from condenser.
- Evaporators (A-Coils) —5 years old or less, little rust or corrosion, preferably with the matching condenser unit.
- Air Conditioners (Window) —5 years old or less, perfect working order needing no repair or parts, well-maintained.
- Duct —All types; 2' sections and longer, little rust or corrosion.
- Duct Fittings —All types, little rust or corrosion.
- Vents/Covers —No rust.
Insulation
- Backed & Unbacked —New or like new, rolled and clean, never damp.
- Blown —New only, in original packaging.
- Sheet —new or like new, ¼ sheet or larger, clean with no holes or damage.
Painting Materials
- Paint —only accept unopened, unused unleaded paint.
- Caulk —new, unopened, and not expired; no “professional” or “industrial use only.”
- Adhesives —not expired and useable; in original packaging only, reseal able; no “professional” or “industrial use only.”
Shutters
- Wooden —interior or exterior, good shape with no damage, rot, or excessive peeling.
- Vinyl —good condition, no damage, brittleness, or heavy fading.
Siding
- Vinyl —full, undamaged pieces or accessories only.
- Wooden/Hardboard —6' long or longer for lengths, at least ½ sheet large for sheets/panels, full pieces for shake-type, no damage or rot.
- Asbestos —None.
- Concrete-Based —In original packaging marked with either manufacture date or containing the words "no asbestos" OR, if loose, written and signed statement required from the donor giving where and approximately when item was purchased new. MUST be manufactured after 1980. Siding products manufactured prior to 1980 will not be accepted.
Tile
- We accept vinyl and ceramic tile, unused or clean.
- Any amount is accepted.
Tools
- Hand —construction or gardening; nothing broken, worn-out, or rusted; fully functional.
- Power —less than 5 years generally, must have all parts, fully functional.
Vehicles – Cars, Trucks, Vans
- Must have clear title.
- Must call to set up an appointment if your car is acceptable for donation. Will not accept drop-offs prior confirmation from SESC HFH office.
- Must be in running condition or repaired for under $500
- Preferably brought to the store. We'll give you a ride home!

Windows, Window Treatments, and Wallpaper
- Single/Double-Hung, Slider, Casement/Awning, Fixed/Picture, & Architectural —single or double-paned, wooden, vinyl, or metal construction acceptable. Must have full frame, no rot, no broken glass or seals, fully operational.
- Storm, Aluminum —glazed with a color is preferable, limited plain silver are acceptable. Must be fully-functioning, complete with all pieces, no broken glass or torn screens. Glass taped for transport is preferred.
- All complete storms —no matter color, allowed if accompanied by a matching window.
- Storm, Wooden —No rot or excessive damage, glass or screen in good shape.
- Sashes —double-paned preferred, single-paned accepted on a limited basis depending on need and condition. No broken glass or seals, no rot, etc.
- Glass Panes (Unframed Glass)—In original shipping packaging only. We do not possess the handling or transport equipment for unpackaged glass.
- Screen Inserts —No wooden without accompanying door. Aluminum and vinyl framed acceptable. Must be complete and undamaged.
- Venetian or “Mini” Blinds —no damage, reasonably clean, all parts, not tangled, neutral colors preferred.
- Vertical Blinds —from retailer/wholesaler/manufacture r only, in box; no used.
- Curtains, Drapes, Curtain Rods, Drapes, Traverse Rods, Valences — in excellent and condition only.
- Wallpaper —excellent, new condition only.
Unacceptable Items
- Used Mattresses.
- Used bedding materials.
- Clothing (accepted outside our ReStore building in our ReStore Clothing Shed).
- Lead-based materials.
- Items which are broken, are parts of larger items, or that would take a great amount of labor to fix.
- Used carpet pads.
- Used carpets (only like new condition) carpets.
- Appliances and computer electronics over 5 years old.
- Used toilets.
- Please note: this list is subject to change -- please call and check before bringing items for donation.
- Materials (e.g. lumber) that is rotten and worn (e.g. no nails).
- Asbestos – materials containing (e.g. siding).
- Only light bulbs in packaging (new) and no PCBs.
ReStore Clothing Shed
The used clothing shed is now accepting donations in front of our SESC HFH ReStore. Some general guidelines on our ReStore Clothing Shed:
- The clothes need to be in clean and in good condition.
- Please place your donated clothes in a sealed plastic bags.
- Do NOT leave items outside a collection box/clothing shed or our ReStore.
- A good rule of thumb: If you would give an item to a friend, it’s fit to donate.
