About SESC Habitat for Humanity

Volunteers supporting a ceiling

SESC Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a global organization founded in 1976 as an ecumenical Christian housing ministry seeking to address the problem of poverty housing through volunteer action and advocacy. Today, Habitat for Humanity has partnered with more than 200,000 families in providing decent, affordable housing in over 3000 communities worldwide, with the support of volunteers ranging from U.S. Presidents to neighbors in your home town. Learn more about the history of our parent organization.

The Southeast Steuben County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity was formed in 1993 by a group of dedicated local volunteers. Today, we have grown to become a full time non-profit organization that has now completed its sixteenth house in the local area, as well as sending volunteer teams to assist in the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort, and shipping our first pre-built “House in a Box” to a community in Alabama. We continue to serve the local community and beyond through the dedication of many area people who volunteer their time, talents or financial resources, as well as the participation and “sweat equity” of the homeowners we serve.
